Why is light skin such a prized feature in our society!?!?!!?!?

i am iranian (persian) and a thought popped in my head about people with lighter skin seem to be looked at as more beautiful in minority cultures

its in every minority culture (asian, middle eastern, black, latino)

i just dont get it.........i think that darker skin is beautiful

im kind of dark for a persian and id like to think im not bad looking

i think its that every other race is after a "whiter" look............you kno light skin, pointed nose, straight hair, wide eyes, etc

well i kinda agree with you.. im not really attracted to white skinned guys, but theres a Turkish guy in my school and im like WOW everytime i see him. but i usually am more attracted to the darker skinned, like indians, jordanians, egyptians etc lol the only people who think light skinned is so prized is the white racist idiots out there. theres nothing wrong with having either color. im puerto rican and im light skinned, i dont hate my color but i wish i was a bit more tan.. people back then put white powder on their face because it was "the whiter the better" rich white people had labor workers who are dark and white people didnt want to look tan cuz working in the sun made u tan and whites thought they shouldnt be doing that kind of work since theres minorities to do it.. so therefore they wouold look like one of the poor workers... of course no one thinks like that today..but theres still racism. racism will never end in my opinion. anyhow really pale white people look sick and all, i dont know how thats so beautiful. at the end of the day, i t doesnt matter if we have white, yellow, red, brown or black skin because thats not paying our bills nor is it keeping us from living a good life.

p.s. about the nose job..yeah i saw that on doctor 90210 an Iranian woman had that nose bentish (i don't know what style of nose its called) but she was talking about how a lot of Iranians are getting nose jobs so they dont look so middle eastern... do they want to look more white?? i don't know,, but the woman who had the nose job she didnt get the full surgery cuz she wanted to keep some of her cultural appearance with her..

I'm a dark skinned black woman and it hurts me to my heart that my own race of men don't find dark women attractive.the sad thing is most of them are as dark as me. I think that we in America see more ads and models presenting beauty more deviously now but the majority is still light. I have to say that just watching a beauty pageant or anything...there are more runner ups that are light skinned. We're conditioned. That's my opinion.

It's kind of anthropological: Lighter skin means less open air (which is considered to be lower) activity than rich people who could easily sit out of the sun for ages in their palaces and with their servants. In Hinduism you would probably be considered as an outcast, as I. A lot of Hindi's treat me as minor, but I'm no Hindu, so I guess it's my turn to show them their place in my hierarchy.

Well, I don't think that everyone feels that way. I am so white that I'm clear!My dad on the other hand has a beautiful dark 'tan' all year round(he has two grandmothers that were Cherokee). I would love to have skin like his.

Back in the day, And I am talking centuries ago, Europeans started leaving Europe and exploring the world. At that time EVERY culture held slaves. They mostly held slaves of their own kind because until the Europeans found them and taught them how they got there, they never had a way to travel any farther than walking could take them.

A good number of the people that the European explorers came across had never seen a white person before so to the "Chiefs" of the tribes they came across, Owning one would be the ultimate show of wealth and power.

Also the lighter the skin color the smoother the skin if no one here has ever noticed that. So, Since only the greatest of the chiefs ever got the chance to steal a white woman away from a explorers party it became a symbol of the upper elite.

Look everyone, I'm not trying to be racist here but it is a darn shame that stating something that anyone with a IQ above room temperature should clearly see currently in this politically correct world is not allowed to be noticed.

if you live in north America, you will see that co lour of skin is not a value to measure your beauty, fair girls give fortune to get tanned..about the shaky-butty-Africans, the only reason is coz they are darn good dancers.. the color of the skin might attract for a moment, but what counts is personality and attitude. Well, I am light skinned and I am black. I think dark skin in the black community is beautiful. I am married but I have only had dark skin men in my life. Tall, dark and muscled, that is my thing. Dark skin, wrinkles less, and have fewer blemishes. In addition it pimples less. Thr thing with dark sin is the feel of it. It feels like butter. Very smooth and soft. I love dark skin. I think that it is beautiful.

It's probably because of all of the countries that were colonized. I find some white guys attractive (and a lot of them find me attractive). I think Italian and Greek guys are cute. My dad is actually part Italian, so maybe because they remind me of him and I love my dad. He's the best. But my bf is latino and tan like me. He actually has the smoothest, clearest most beautiful skin. He's a mechanic and women have made comments about how nice it is. It really is, even nicer than mine which sucks. My pores are larger than his.

also REALLY dark people are seen as unnatractive-not sure why, but ive heard them being called burnt and all kinds of things

not to be rude but i wouldnt actually like it if i was extremely dark- i dont know if its to do with the way society has shaped my views or whatever but im glad im light

and i like my hair striaght- but i think that does have soemthing to do with the whole "flowing-locks" image

i prefer my button nose over a striaght nose- i would look really odd with a straight nose lol

wide eyes arent anything to do with being white---its the whole image of cuteness-babies have really big eyes, so people like having big eyes- its a sort of retaining youth thing

same with big/plump lips, ( i have those too !!) babies have really pouty lips, and thin lips are like a sign of aging, so people try to make them thicker
