Why did mexico cover up their african ancestry? they have just recently acknowledged it as the 3rd r

many of their famous heroes and music choice, food and dance are traced back to african heritage.

the history books never told us or them about african slaves marrying indian and mestizo women and outnumbering the spanish people. how the dark asian people brought there were called black and treated low class.

how runaway slaves walked to mexico instead of running up north.

how some of the most famous revolutionary heroes and presidents in mexican history were from black/mestizo slaves. there are even cities named after them today.

but now it's been so watered down that mexico erased this from the history books, like america.

if you google mexico and blacks, ou will be surprised how much history mexico has with the african.

since mexican is not a race, you can sometimes tell who has more spanish/white, more indian/mestizo, some traces of african blood.

sometimes we, blacks, come in so many shades and hair texture. i mistake some blacks for hispanic or indian like chancho

Why did mexico cover up their african ancestry? they have just recently acknowledged it as the 3rd root.?

First of all, you have your sources misplaced. My mother is from Mexico (White Father) and I have gone through many states of mexico ranging from Zacatecas to Chiapas. I am also an avid reader of Mexican history, especially through the conquest by Spain through Hernan Cortez.

While the Spanish did import african slaves into Mexico due to a shortage of Indian labor, the amount was not overly significant to cause a drastic change in the demographics of the population of Mexico. By far the amount and impact of Mestizos (European, mainly Spanish/Amerindian mix) outweighs that of Zambo or Lobo's (African/Amerindian mix) definitely.

Another thing, many of your claims are based behind a POV that is racial in its style ("but now its so watered down that mexico erased this from the history books, like america.) I can't see how that can be possible because first of all, if you have visited the Chapultepec Castle in Mexico city, you will see in the museum different pictures of the races that were made in mexico. Zambo's exist there, even if there impact was slight, especially compared to the Mestizos. I won't even mention the American part of your quotation which is absolutely ludicrous seeing how America is as race-obsessed as it is (Feburary).

("how some of the most famous revolutionary heroes and presidents in mexican history were from black/mestizo slaves"). You didn't mention anyone in particular. What I am thinking in the end, is that you are another individual with a misplaced sense of history in your mind, who has failed to look at the available sources at hand. I think you need to analyze history books a little closer, and I think you need to take a some trips to mexico and actually read some of the things there. Stop using racial discrimination as some crutch, and start looking at history from some perspective.

I don't think that there is any civilization that blacks have not had a impact on.

My grandfather does this as well. He does it because of how it was hard for blacks in the U.S and how his family member were slaves. He for gets that his mother and grandmother have Hispanic blood too. My mom, grandmother, and I are the only ones that speak Spanish. I think it's sad that my grandfather can't respect both side of his heritages like we do. But That is something he needs to work on.

I suggest that perhaps you really aren't in Mexico, and your sources have been militant black power folks in the US I just got back from three months in the Third World part of Mexico, and that was after only one month in the States, after my last three months.

It is no secret in Mexico that there are a lot of Mexicans descended from African people. My wife's great-uncle, around 90 years old, is married to a person who at least visually HAS TO BE of African descent. This is in the state of Vera Cruz, where a number of African slaves were known to have escaped and set up life in the jungles. It took me a while to figure it out, though the color is right for African, and the hair is "standard curly". The problem is her facial characteristics are more like anglo, with small lips, etc.

To show how unracist the Mexicans generally are, when I first saw her, I was curious about her ancestry. I knew the visual appearance of Aztec; Otomi; Toltec; Olmec; and Mayan. But, she fit none of them. When I asked family, not only did no one know, but had never even thought about it until I asked.

But, there is no evidence that the general population of Mexico is largely descended from African people. That is unrealistic.
